Community First Celebrates Flag Day
COLUMBIA, TN (May 12, 2009) – Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the United States flag on June 14th of 1777. Although not an official Federal holiday, Community First Bank & Trust wants to celebrate the 232 years the flag has proudly flown for our country. On June 12th from 11am-4pm, the Community First Bank & Trust Financial Center on Carothers Parkway will hold a celebration of our nation’s flag. Free to the public, attendees will enjoy complimentary barbeque catered by Corky’s, ice cream by Blue Bell Creameries, cotton candy, refreshments and more!
To begin the festivities; guest, honoree, and retired United States Air Force veteran, Cliff Steger, will speak. Serving 25 years in the United States Air Force, Cliff is a combat veteran, serving through the Vietnam era to Desert Storm. Through his military aviation training, Cliff traveled the world serving as a Special Forces aircrew, supporting the Unmanned Space Program and best known for his participation in returning hostages held in Iran in the late 70’s. Cliff and his wife now live in Brentwood with their two wonderful children and granddaughter.
As a public service, the Boys Scouts will be attending to collect “retired” American flags, where they will later ceremoniously and properly dispose of them. Happy Tales Humane will be bringing several animals that will be available for adoption for a good home and will be available to speak about their program. The Franklin Fire Department, Station 6, will be bringing their main fire engine for the kids to learn about fire safety and prevention. And, the kids will also enjoy an 18’ inflatable slide, and other games and giveaways.
All activities are free to the public. In addition to the festivities, Community First Bank & Trust is accepting donations for their “Collection for the Troops” barrel. Items that are appreciated are tube socks, toiletries such as Chap Stick and dental floss, nonperishable items such as instant coffee and Gatorade powder. Items received are bundled into care packages and sent to the service men and women overseas.
