1st Annual Project: School Supplies a Success

Community First Bank calls upon community to donate supplies to local children.

COLUMBIA, TN (August 27, 2009) –Community First Bank & Trust is pleased to announce the result of its 1st annual Project: School Supplies drive.  During the drive, each Community First Bank & Trust location collected much needed school supplies to donate to local elementary schools in an effort to help area children in need.  “This year, many children will go to school without the necessary supplies they need as many families are struggling through the tough economy”, says Lori Donaldson, Marketing Officer of Community First Bank & Trust.  “The bank has a vision through Project: School Supplies, of helping as many children as we can to be equipped with the tools they need to be successful this school year.” Over the course of two-weeks, a drop box was available, for employees, customers and members of the community to leave new and unopened school supplies.  The school drive ran July 20th through July 31st.

School supplies were dropped off at Community First Bank & Trust’s 9 locations in 4 Middle Tennessee counties. Each Community First Bank location filled 18-gallon tote bins full of school supplies such as crayons, #2 pencils, glue sticks, notebook paper, highlighters, colored pencils, baby wipes, pencil pouches, notebook, scissors, binders, erasers, folders, hand sanitizers, tissues, magic markers and more. Supplies were then taken to a local elementary school in the area, each of whom have a large number of children who were unable to bring their own supplies at the beginning of the school year. “School supplies are needed now more than ever.  More children have applied this year for the discounted school lunch program and are attending school without bringing in any supplies at all,” stated Steve Fisher, Principal of Bethesda Elementary School.  Although in its first year, Community First Bank & Trust’s Project: School Supplies was a success and the bank is grateful to their customers and employees for donating items.
